Today is Mother’s day. Happy mother’s day to all moms! We are all moms no matter if we have children or not. We all have an impact on the children we come in contact with.
I wanted to share what I received this morning from my foster son. He is 9yrs old and has been with us for 15 months now. He does not eat a Protective Diet 100% of the time but close. From day one I have only cooked Whole Food Plant Based recipes. I have tried to make his favorite foods “PDfied”.
He made the following picture frame. He told me in a letter he gave me “I love it when you try to make me food that I like.” As you can see it has a fork, knife and a spoon. The green buttons are plates and the yellow ones on the top are his eyes, so he can see me. The keys around the outside are the keys to his heart.

I let him know from the the first day he came to us that he had to try all the food I prepared, at least once. If he really didn’t like the food, we would find something else he could have. If I made the same recipe in the future he had to try it again. I taught him that his taste buds will change over time. So if he didn’t like something the first time, he may like it the second. From the beginning we started a list with all the items he liked. We keep this list on the fridge. I can say that over time the list has grown. He also enjoys helping me in the kitchen making recipes, reading and watching video clips when they are provided with the recipes.
Some of his favorite recipes are.

Banana Bread: He likes the regular banana bread but really enjoys the chocolate version. This version is in the notes for the recipes on the PD site.
Gyro Sandwich: He likes these plan without the sauce. We also just crumble the gyros on top of the mac and cheese recipe or on top of a salad.
King Sauce: I don’t add all of the Arbol Chilies. Usually just one or maybe two. I take out the seed on the second one.
Mexican Pizza: He enjoys putting this together adding his own toppings.
The following recipes are ones he didn’t care for at first but really enjoys now.
French Onion Dip: We use this as a dip for veggies or as a salad dressing. For the longest time I purchased store bought dressing. I started using the french onion recently when he ran out of the store brand. Know he likes this as a dressing.
Spicy Bird Seed: We call these crunches. He likes adding them to his salad. From day one I always made a side salad. His salads are usually very plain. Just the salad greens and dressing, shredded cheese when I have it made. Sometimes he likes carrots or pickles in his salad or on the side. There have been times that I have decided to skip the salad and he has requested one.
Plant based Yogurt: He likes this with a little stevia, vanilla extract and blueberries.
You will need to log into the PD website to view the free and premium recipes. The premium recipes are viewable if you are enrolled in PD-ed. There are over 100 free recipes. I have used this site for over 2 ½ years. I would say that 98% of my recipes come from this site. Hope you enjoy these as much as I do.
